When the drug moves to various parts of the body, it makes one to be tired; the person feels weak and wants to have a rest or sleep for a while. The feeling comes suddenly and it doesn’t go with sleep or rest, it always takes time. When the person is experiencing that he /she find it hard to do daily activities since his/her muscles pains a lot. The person feels uncomfortable so the best way to go about it is to have a rest and that makes other things not to work normally.

When some is under medication of cancer. The drugs from chemotherapy can reduce the number of white blood cells in his/her body, since the white blood cells help the body in fight viruses, diseases, and infections due to the presence of B-Lymphocytes and T-Lymphocytes that helps to strengthen the immune system and helps in removing infections. The reduction of the white blood cells makes it harder for your body to fight infections and exposes your body to infections such as flu and COVID-19.

Nausea and vomiting.

Nausea and vomiting are a common side effect of chemotherapy. This side effect is mostly feared by most people undergoing the treatment since it causes irritation and discomfort to patients. It occurs within 24 hours after the patient has taken the drug. Nausea and vomiting can be understood well by saying it is an anticipatory vomiting that happens due to the response to a stimulus it causes some stomach pains and one's gets relieved if he/she throws up. The feeling is just terrible.

Appetite changes.

Appetite loss is when one does not feel like eating anything. It might be caused by the drug of chemotherapy which makes someone loss a taste for food, the person feels like not taking anything, the vomiting also can make the throat painful making it difficult for one wanting to eat. The appetite loss may also be caused by depression or tiredness which is brought about by the drugs. When someone is tired, he/she prefers having a rest rather than eating something and that is where people go wrong because if you don’t take or eat anything you will remain to be weak for even a week.

Chemotherapy can cause harm to your body especially the lining of the intestine that will make one suffer from constipation. Constipation is also caused by the eating habit of the patient, if the patient does not eat property, it might be due to appetite changes it triggers bowel irregularity and makes one to constipate. This is so dangerous since the body needs to release some waste product for it to function normally. Constipation can be managed by adding some fiber to the patient’s diet to help in digestion and regular bowel movements.

Hair loss.

Hair loss is a common side effect for almost all cancer patients. During the treatment of cancer through chemotherapy, many patients’ lose their hair this is because the treatment harm the cells that are help in the growing of hair. The hair loss is also called alopecia, it has been the most stressing side effect to all cancer patients since it affects their lifestyle and they relate with other people, some may be affected mentally, they will be scared on how people will see them because they will be looking different from others. The hair loss is common to every cancer patient, it occurs as early as the second or third week after the first cycle of chemotherapy is done.

The treatment of cancer through chemotherapy can destroy the ability of the body to produce red blood cells which are important to the body because they help in carrying oxygen from the lungs to the body tissues and waste product from the body tissues to the lungs. When someone takes the drug, the drug travels to the body and destroys the red bloods cell leading to anemia since the body tissues are not getting enough oxygen or even they are not getting any oxygen, this makes the patient to be weak, may feel dizzy, he/she may run out of breath and even faint. This is so dangerous and it needs someone to take care of the patient all the time to act accordingly when the patient is in danger.

Easy bruising and bleeding

Chemotherapy affects the borne marrow of the cancer patient because it is responsible for the production of platelets that helps the body in blood clotting. And since that is a side effect of these process, these makes the patient to bleed abnormally with no necessary injury. As a result of these, a person is likely to lose a lot of blood in the body hence making him weak. The affected patients is always advised to visit the doctor incase he/she sees signs such as, unusual vaginal bleeding, bleeding from your nose and gums.

Infertility problems

As a result of chemotherapy, both men and women who have undergone this process are likely to be faced with fertility issues. In men, the sperms production slows down and can eventually lead to no production of sperms as a long-term effect and may not be reversible. In women, it can easily affect the ovaries making them to stop the production of estrogen and eggs. This might be temporary and can come back after the treatment or it may fail to return, and this leads to permanent infertility.

Changes in weight

It can also make a patient who is undergoing treatment to either lose or gain weight. It all depends on how the body responds to the medication. This occurs because of the effects caused by the process undergone because, it affects your eating habits, and one may fail to maintain their normal weight hence the difference.

Yes, we appreciate that chemotherapy is there to help the cancer patients ease their pain and has been approved by medics, but we should not ignore the fact that it has some side effects that should not be ignored. Some of these effects can either be reversible or irreversible. As you consider going for these treatments, stay woke on the other negative effects that you might be forced to handle after the treatment is done. Many individuals have experienced these but due to lack of information they fail to understand why they experience such episodes in their lives.

It is advisable to seek the doctor’s advice after you start experiencing these side effects after your chemo treatment and believe me it is not the end of life because, the earlier you see the doctor, your situation can change for the better.
